A concentric slave cylinder is the hydraulic release unit that sits around the gearbox input shaft and releases the clutch on most modern hydraulically actuated systems. KBC supplies concentric slave cylinders and hydraulic release bearings for passenger, light commercial and heavy duty vehicles.

Concentric slave cylinder and hydraulic bearing range

These units replaced the older external slave cylinder and fork arrangement on most current vehicles. They are compact and effective, but they live inside the bellhousing, which means replacing one is a gearbox-out job. It is worth fitting a quality unit the first time.

Common symptoms of a failed unit include a clutch pedal that sinks to the floor, loss of clutch fluid with no visible external leak, and difficulty selecting gears with the engine running.

Specifications

  • Also known as: Concentric bearing, hydraulic release bearing, CSC, actuator
  • Function: Hydraulically releasing the clutch, mounted concentric to the input shaft
  • Applications: Passenger, light commercial and heavy duty vehicles
  • Related: Mechanical release bearings for older systems
  • Supply: Wholesale across South Africa and SADC

Because it is a gearbox-out job, most workshops replace the full clutch at the same time. See our clutch kits, plates and pressure plates and flywheels.

Not sure which part you need?

Send us a photograph or the dimensions and we will identify the exact part for you. It is a free service we have run for years, and it is the fastest way to get the right component when the old part has no legible markings left on it. Get in touch or send the details through and we will come back to you.

Ordering a concentric slave cylinder

Every concentric slave cylinder is supplied wholesale to the trade. Give us the vehicle details or send a photograph of the old unit and we will match it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my concentric slave cylinder has failed?

The usual signs are a soft or sinking clutch pedal, clutch fluid disappearing without a visible leak, and trouble selecting gears. Because the unit sits inside the bellhousing, leaks are often only found once the gearbox is out.

Should I replace the clutch at the same time?

Almost always. The labour to reach the slave cylinder is the same labour needed to change the clutch, so doing both at once avoids paying for the strip-down twice.
